Abstract

MECHANICAL ENGINEERING IN ANCIENT EGYPT, PART 100: TEMPLES-COLUMNS INDUSTRY

ABSTRACT

The objective of this paper is to investigate the development of mechanical engineering in ancient Egypt through the study of the temples-columns industry. The study presents outstanding designs of temple-columns in ancient Egypt during time periods from Old Kingdom to Ptolemaic-Roman periods. It investigates the design methodology used by the ancient Egyptian architect and how he could simulate the local plants around him to design and produce stone columns with wonderful design, decoration and inscription.
