PROSPECTIVE STUDY ASSESSING MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES DURING PREGNANCY AND POSTPARTUM AT MILLENNIUM HOSPITAL

ABSTRACT
Introduction: Depression and anxiety are the most common mental health problems in pregnancy. This affects 10-15 out of every 100 pregnant women. Lack of recognition of high-risk factor or failure to develop appropriate management leads to many health problems in pregnancy and puerperium. Purpose of study: To assess the prevalence of mental health issues in pregnant patients presenting to Millennium hospital. Early detection of mental health issues during pregnancy and post-natal period and counselling thereby Improving the safety of the mother and fetus. Methods: The prospective study included 150 women, aged between 19 and 42 years, who received perinatal care at the Millennium hospital between October 2024 to October 2025. Results: There was an association of age group and high Edinburgh scores. The score is statistically significant in the age group of 19-26 during 6 weeks post-natal visit and it correlates mostly with issues of coping up with the baby and the change in sleep patterns. Conclusion: Screening the patients at the booking visit will definitely help us to identify high score –high risk patients. Frequent follow ups of such patients will immensely help health care providers approach such patients with better plan of care.
