Abstract
EVALUATION OF THE EFFECT OF PARTIALLY PURIFIED THIOSULFATE SULFURTRANSFERASE ON SOME CLINICAL VARIABLES IN THE BLOOD OF TYPE 2 DIABETES PATIENTS: AN IN VITRO STUDY
Marwa Mustafa Mawajdeh* and Thikra Ali Allwsh
ABSTRACT
This study included an attempt to isolate and purify thiosulfate sulfurtransferase (TST) from healthy human plasma using different biochemical techniques. Two peaks had been isolated by gel filtration chromatography from the precipitate produced by using ammonium sulfate. The second peak (B) had a high activity of TST. Furthermore, the approximate molecular weight of partially purified TST peak B was 34,000 Dalton using gel filtration chromatography. An in vitro study on the effect of adding partially purified TST (peak B) on some variables in the blood of type 2 diabetes patients has been studied. The result showed that significant decrease in glucose when studying the effect of partially purified TST (peak B) when added to the blood (in vitro) of type 2 diabetic patients, while a significant increase in the antioxidant’s glutathione and thioredoxin, also while there was no any significant difference observed in the concentration of triglyceride and Triglyceride-glucose Index. According to the results of this study, the TST enzyme plays an important role in glucose metabolism and its relationship to oxidative stress, and thus may be a new indicator in treating or reducing complications of diabetes.
