EVALUATION OF SERUM LIPIDS LEVELS IN MALE PATIENTS WITH ANDROGENETIC ALOPECIA

ABSTRACT
Background: Androgenetic alopecia (AGA) is an androgen-dependent, hereditary trait resulting from the conversion of scalp terminal hairs into miniaturized vellus hairs in a characteristic pattern. The frequency and severity increase with age, and at least 80% of Caucasion men show evidence of AGA by age 70 years.[1] Objective: This study was designed to find out the association between dyslipidemia and androgenetic alopecia. Methods: This study was a case - control study conducted at Tishreen University Hospital, Lattakia, during the period between Jan 2022 and Jan 2023. 60 Patients diagnosed as having androgenetic alopecia and 50 age and sex matched controls without AGA were studied after taking their consent. Detailed history and clinical examination were performed, laboratory values of serum lipids levels and androgenetic alopecia and Hamilton Norwood scale were assessed to define the degree of AGA.
